Bead of fossil mammoth tooth
Unusual bead made for fossil mammoth tooth. 1 1/2 x 1/2 inches. Meant to br an accent swingle bead alone or accented. I have more may make more but hard to get mammoth teeth stable enough for beads and is a hard material to work, it takes diamond tools. This material has been died blue and stabilized, but can have the4swe colors naturally, just more expensive. Has a hole so it can be strung.
Fossil mammoth tooth slice 8.2 ounces
Fossil mammoth tooth slice, 8.2 ounces. 6 ¼ x 3 x ¼ inches. Very large all natural #1 gem grade and cut. Interesting cut down the length instead of crosscut as is usually done, for a one of a kind look. Stronger being cut with the grain. Flat, even cut. Single piece, but knife scale pattern could be laid out and easily fit this probably 2-3-4 sets. Or use as a display . Slight natural crazing on surface will probably be on end product as natural patterning. Should remain stable. Do not overheat this material when working or it could crack warp. Higher skill levels required on this, however the final product is ‘high end.’ Rare to see this material in this size.
I have video on my website on how to handle this material https://youtu.be/Iu9ira_x3Hc
Fossil mammoth tooth large
Sold out
Fossil mammoth tooth 4.9 pounds. 8 inches long x 3-2 ½ inches wide. A large tooth. Some is missing, but shows good chewing surface, good roots, is solid enough for display. No cracks. Has been stabilized and restored. Being about 50,000 years old , last ice age, 90% of all teeth will need some restoration. Ones that do not will be twice the price. This one could potentially be sliced up for those looking for sliceable material. Worth about $200 a slice, guessing this one could produce 10 slices. You need diamond tools and knowledge. I’m working on a you-tube video showing how to handle teeth, but not done yet. Honestly, I would cut this up myself if this were in worse shape! This one will make a nice display. I cut up the ‘junk’ after stabilizing more. Alaska teeth tend to have best colors. Some ‘north sea’ teeth cost less but were in salt water, and as such need soaking in water, which might crack them worse. Restoration does not work if there is salt present. Eventually the salt breaks them down. Thus, these Alaska teeth are sought after. Not easy to find on the market.
Fossil mammoth tooth chunk 8.6 oz
Fossil mammoth slice tooth chunk 8.6 oz. 3 x 2 ½ x 1 inches. Stabilized and dyed (required as this is a fragile material.) Hard, takes nice shine. I use diamond tools to cut, but bandsaw works, it just may wear out my $14 blade working one project. Extremely beautify and desired but, hard to work. Wants to break along soft growth lines… If it breaks, somewhat easy to superglue and no show. Can be turned on lathe, carved. Can be used for inlay pendants etc.
Fossil mammoth tooth slice set 3.4 ounces
Fossil ice age mammoth tooth slice set for knife scales. 3.4 ounces. 4 ½ x 1 ½ x ¼ inches. Thin 16th in mammoth tooth laminated to exotic Alaska wood from area fossil found. Laminating strengthens this material that would be fragile and break if not backed. The tooth part is thin enough normal carbide type sanding cutting tools will work (band saw etc). From interior Alaska.
