Alaska birch burl 11.3oz 6 x4 inches
Block of wood 11.3 ounces . Alaska River birch burl 6 x 4 x ¾ inches. Natural colors but stabilized by cactus juice method. Birch is a border line hard wood, so some help with stabilizing ensures it will take a polish and be semi -water proof. This wood has not been turned into plastic so still behaves like wood, but is now less likely to split warp have soft or weak spots or other normal wood issues. The stabilizing adds value and keeps the natural look and colors intact. This cut came from a dead tree in a log jam off the Tanana River a trip 900 miles into the wilderness by boat. I find these quality burls where no one else has gone to look that take over 100 years to grow. The patterning in this piece is #1 grade, gem grade as good as it gets. Good for knife scales, pen turning or other wood projects.
